Announcers are just stupid. Scutaro probably should have not thrown the bat. However, he threw it away from the play and it took a weird bounce back to the catcher. Does it seem odd to anyone, other than me, that I am talking about a bat taking a weird bounce?

The Rays are a bunch of crybabies. It seems like they're involved in some sort of ridiculous argument once a week anymore.

It appears Joe Torre made his first move as Umpire Administrator. At All Star Break, he broke up Joe West and Angel Hernandez...must of had enough.....Angel went to Gerry Davis Crew and Sam Holbrook to Joe West Crew....Something needed to be done...My least 4 favorites Angel Hernandez, Phil Cuzzi, CB Bucknor and Bob Davidson as they are involved in way to much controversy.
Went to Met/Marlin game last night, and wouldn't you know it...Angel had they plate....He seemed to have a very tight and low strike zone in my opinion.

I don't understand why everyone hates CB Bucknor. For the 4 years I have really followed umps I have not seen him have much controversey. Plus, this year he is one of mthe few umpires who has not had an ejection and he only has 4 ejections in the last 4 years.

Bucknor has matured a lot. Early on in his career he was a bit of a hothead but not anymore

Joe Torre has argued with and been ejected by many of the umpires he is now charged with administrating. This position was held by Frank Robinson before, an Earl Weaver wanna be. You mean Paul Runge, Jim Evans, Mark Hirschbeck, or Jerry Crawford were not available? Does anyone see some type of "issue" with a many-time ejectee in charge of the ejectors?

Gibson is also on that crew now...the one who blew two calls in the Dodgers-Mets series last week.

Yeah, you're right......what we were talking about is lousy umpires and my point was they took a lousy umpire (Hernandez) and added him to a crew which already had a terrible umpire...read my comment, I said Gibson is also on that crew now, I guess I should have said too.

Fred, I have no problem with someone like Torre being among those reviewing umpires. It gives a different viewpoint (managers look at some additional criteria besides if the call was right or wrong including the umpire's response to protest). Also, how many ex-officials have burned out of supervisor roles because they let their personal relationships trump what was happening on the field or the relationship strained other friendships (see Andy Van Hellemond for the former and Stephen Walkom for the latter in NHL)

Also, how many ex-officials have burned out of supervisor roles because they let their personal relationships trump what was happening on the field or the relationship strained other friendships (see Andy Van Hellemond for the former and Stephen Walkom for the latter in NHL) I read an article somewhere about what has been happening the last few years in the NHL officiating department and it almost seems chaotic. Bryan Lewis was let go as head of the officials after complaints about what happened at the end of the Sabres-Stars Stanley Cup finals like the explanations caused embarassment to the league and Napoleon oops Bettman doesn't react well to criticism (for those who don't remember , that was the famous season where if your toe nail was in the goal crease on a replay, the goal was disallowed and it really got out of hand and then suddenly on the Stanley Cup winning goal, they forgot all about it). Van Hellemond was let go obstensibly because he borrowed some money from one of the officials??? Please. And finally Walkom suddenly discovered he preferred to be on the ice than in a supervisory role? If you buy that one, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell to you (of course it had nothing to do with the criticisms that the games were being called too closely with too many penalties disrupting the flow of the game). I don't know how many of you watched the NHL this year, but it was evident the referees had been told to ease up (they claim, of course, there were fewer penalties because the players have learned what they can't get away with but don't believe that for one second). If the Philadelphia Flyers could come into MSG on a Sunday afternoon game and play an entire game without a penalty being called against them, well you can draw your own cvonclusions.
