Molina should get about a month off without pay. Not only did he bump Drake, but it appeared he may have unintentionally spit on Drake as well. Not defending Molina but the umpire in this case looks like he said something to set Molina off. And it was a bad call; the pitch was inside clear as day. Molina and Drake must have been jawing back and forth for a while and in effect Drake was telling him you wanted that pitch called a strike for your guys. Sometimes if the umpire just walks away from it, a lot of trouble can be avoided. (Again not defending Molina who will get a 3 game suspension probably and appeal it and have it reduced to 2, just you wait and see.)

It looked like an awful call... and CJ is correct. Molina totally flew off-the-handle and he deserves whatever he gets.
But, tell me, is it just me or does it seem like there have been lots of bad umpiring this season? More so than usual. Monday night, LA @ SAN. Bartlett (I think) tries to steal second. From the naked eye he looked safe. Chris Conroy calls him out. Replays show Bartlett had his foot on the bag well before he was tagged on his butt. Very often, when tagged that high, you're safe and he was. I don't know you guys, just seems like the umpiring is on the skids this season.

Players have no right to question a ball or strike call . The umpiring has been great this year.

I don't know if we can say umpiring is worse this year than in the past....technology today, of course, is much better with all sorts of HD available, sports center, mlb tv all show every controversial play ovber and over again in graphic detail. There are strike boxes now on local telecasts to second guess the home plate umpires; slow motion replays of every half swing, whatever. It is a thankless job. The game is played in the searing heat of July and August in many places and I for one can feel for somebody standing behind home plate for three and a half hours, crouching down every few seconds, with yapping coming at hime constantly. Now after the game, he will get a dvd of the game he just called with all sorts of notations of the pitches he missed and his colleagues go back to their dressing room to look at any controversial play they were involved with. It's rough but they get paid very well for what they do.
I just wish they wouldn't be so confrontational which I realize is easier said than done.
