no ejections today. haven't been on the forum in a while, but since it looks like football is back, i figured i'd stop in. been watching a lot of baseball today, and made my way to baltimore for an interleague games vs the cardinals.
Watching someone get tossed is so much fun. Especailly when its Guillen or Tracy. They've replaced Cox and Pinniella this year.

I like what they did this weekend in NY because of the heat. They brought in a AAA guy to give the previous day's PU the next day off. They really needed it.

That always hurts. I'm really surprised that Hirschbeck stayed in the game.

I almost wanted to barf when I saw that. Caught him flush on the way up. You can wear an iron or cement cup and you'll drop like you've been shot. No one's fault. I think I'd rather take one in the mask than where it counts.

I am a die hard Atlanta Braves fan, and I have no problem admitting that my Braves just won a game on what may have been the worst call in the history of baseball. My Braves had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out in the bottom of the 19th inning when there was a ground ball hit to third. The 3B fired home where the throw beat our runner from 3rd with plenty of time to spare. The catcher was standing there with ball and glove waiting on him, and he clearly put a swipe tag on him well before he got to the plate. Our runner never even got to the plate. After the catcher took the tag off of him, our runner just reached over and touched home on the way to the dugout (thinking he was out). Suddenly, Jerry Meals called safe--ending the game. Many of the Pirates player had to be restrained as the umpires left the field through the Pirate dugout. I'm sitting here at 1:00 in the morning in total shock at what I just saw (although it is a welcome shock)! I know the folks who always find the video will find it as soon as it's posted.
Also, for the video folks, way back in the 9th inning, Fredi Gonzalez and Nate Mcclouth of my Braves were both ejected for aruging balls/strikes. I admit they probably were deserved ejections.

For the record, Meals' explanation:
Meals’ explanation:
“I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that. I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened I didn’t see a tag.
“I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn’t see the glove hit his leg.”

I dunno... It's a lot closer than some think, but Jerry probably missed this one.

I dunno... It's a lot closer than some think, but Jerry probably missed this one. The overhead shots make it look like he missed it by a mile. The third angle of the video highlight shows where Meals may have gotten it right. It IS a lot closer than people think.

My umpire training from many years ago...my instructor when the ball beats the runner by a very wide margin, unless the runner makes an absolutely scintilating slide away from the tag, the call should be out 99.9% of the time. Don't get too cute. Would the Braves have argued if the proper out call was made? I doubt it.
