Actually it may have been the umpires that screwed up. That play was actually reviewable and since there was evidence that Duda had slowed up after the out call the umpires could have placed him back at 2nd base and it would have been 1st and 2nd with 2 outs had Terry Collins won the challenge That's what mlb said after the fact and apparently it is the job of the replay umpires in NY to place the runners in this situation And of course although I didn't post it, on Satgurday night in the Mets game we discovered that a foul ball of the batter's foot called fair (although I'm not sure how conclusive the replay was; the ball certainly changed direction but replays did not show conclusively the ball had hit the batter's foot) which is a black or white call as I like to call it (it either did or didn't hit the batter's foot) is NOT reviewable but a possible hit batsman is! The whole thing has become a travesty along with their re=interpretation of the "transfer" rule, the tag play on the bases where for a century if the ball clearly beat the runner to the base and was handled smoothly, the runner was always called out (something that I agree with; somebody's going to break their hand sooner or later on this play), the blocking of the plate debacle. The silly headsets. It's hard to believe rationale people made up this system.

From the Phillies/Rockies game from Saturday, here's the 1st instance of a violation of the new rule 7.13 (also first via Replay Review [per the article]).Tim Welke was the plate umpire:
www.closecallsports.com/2014/04/mlb-instant-replay-review-115-tim-welke.html
As one of the comments says, when the rule is interpreted this way, Welke had to change his call. But from a pure baseball standpoint, Arenado was out & Welke's first call was right.

Seth Buckminster, in apparently his first plate job in MLB, ejects Daniel Murphy of the Mets in the 10th inning with the Mets down a run, for arguing a pretty good low third strike call. m.mlb.com/video/v32416599/mianym-murphy-ejected-after-arguing-a-called-strike/?query=murphy+ejectionAnd to the credit of Met announcers Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez, and they are all over Murphy, and not the rookie ump. They had been talking very nice about Buckminster all through the game. Met announcers are usually pretty good about that sort of thing actually, and generally so are the Yankee announcers...all 20 of them...

I believe this was Buckminster's second plate job. He worked the plate in the first game of the Orioles-Blue Jays series in Toronto earlier this week.

The third strike call I thought the ball was off the corner, but it is too close to take in that situation. Buckminster for the most part called a good game but there were times you could see his inexperience. One pitch in particular the Mets reliever had the strikeout but because the catcher was set up on one corner and it went to the other it crossed up Buckminster and he called it a ball

Just saw the last of the tenth in the game then looked up both the Mets and Marlins telecasts on mlb.tv. SNY, the Mets outlet, does not use the fox track or whatever it's called. The Miami telecast does. The Miami telecast and their broadcasters showed the pitch was clearly outside, really not all that close. The following first pitch to the next Met hitter was also somewhat outside as verified by the Fox strike zone box although closer.
