It was a 3 point game with 2:30 left. No way someone gives them self up that early. Even Tony Dungy is giving the league an earful and he never does that.

Rule 7 Section 4 Article 1 (a): How to give yourself up An official shall declare dead ball and the down ended:
(a) when a runner is out of bounds or declares himself down by falling to the ground and makes no effort to advance
Someone should post a YouTube and I wonder if it can be said that Cruz "gave himself up." I am not so sure, but that wording makes it more ambiguous

If the receiver did what cj described, it sounds like the only thing reviewable is down by contact or not. Did Bergman rule down by contact? That is more excusable than "giving himself up."
Who orginally ruled "giving himself up?" Boger or Bergman?

Bergman was the official right on top of the play, but Boger made the announcement

Fred...I'm sure you know down by contact is now reviewable and if that had been the call, the recovery was immediate and it would be reviewable and Arizona ball. The Giants knew it was going to cost them the game and ran up to try to run the play but the red flag came in. At that point the officials conferred and then Boger came up with the runner gave himself up voluntarily call. Meanwhile they have Periera on explaining it would be Arizona ball and then when Boger made the announcement they played it back again and Periera came out and said pure and simple it was a terrible call as indeed it was.

Yes, if they ruled down by contact the review would be appropriate and the Cardinals could have gotten the ball back - had Boger not ruled down by contact.
It sounds like after the red flag came out, they then got together for the giving himself up call. I would guess the covering official(s) then gave Boger that info and he then made the announcement.
Sheesh. Sounds like a real mess..................

Good start to the SNF game by Carey's crew. Good communication on that first intentional grounding call of Flacco.

Brown mic'd for sound effects for TV. Those are two huge mics on the brim of his hat.

Busy start to the night for Carey's crew. But it looks like they're calling what needs to be called.

Busy start to the night for Carey's crew. But it looks like they're calling what needs to be called. They got paid per flag last week in Chicago too, but got most all of them right.
