Did Rex Ryan call timeout just so he could scream at Mike Carey over the Sanchez pass/fumble for a TD call?
Someone get Sanchez some kleenex as he went into tantrum mode.

Good catch by NBC on the missed contact to the plant leg of the punter Yes. Probably should have been called. The problem here is that Carey has become so caught up in the Jet offensive lines stinks that he is keeping an extra eye on it....he was watching the holding and failed to carry out his primary responsibility on that play namely protecting the kicker...the referee is the only one who calls either roughing the kicker or running into the kicker but it is clear Carey never looked back at the kicker after throwing the flag for holding. Somewhat poor technique.

Poor first half for all concerned...we have the missed infraction against the kick and then on that last Baltimore punt, the ball was clearly touched by a member of the Ravens at the 2 and where the hell is the replay official...that is reviewable and inside 2 minutes it's his responsibility. They are both bad errors not really judgment but black or white calls. One tries not to question judgment but black or white calls like those 2 (the judgment would have been if it's roughing the kicker or running into the kicker which really wouldn't have mattered as it would have been off setting penalties in any event)......

That is one of the dumbest penalties you'll ever see in an NFL game. A good call and GREAT explanation from Blakeman.

As I said earlier in this thread, Houston won despite having 2 TDs called back due to dumb penalties.

Carey used a metal whistle with the pink plastic cover on it in the first half. It was a weak, warbly thing, and his back with his usual whistle in the second half.

2.9 for the crew tonight.....downgrades as noted above on missing the roughing/running into the kicker and the ball being touched at the 2, otherwise they got everything else right and most importantly did not influence the outcome of the game like cerrtain other crews did today.

Two interesting items by Corrente in Oakland. First, he announced, "both penalties on the play were by the Raiders" I have never recognized this before - I am use to, "both penalties on the play were by the kicking team."
Also, an interesting PI call on the Patriots. After the penalty on the field the ball is spotted just outside the goal line and then after a peculiar delay Corrente called off the penalty and moved the ball back to original line of scrimmage.
3.5

Carey missed a roughing the kicker. I was not watching the game when there was that touching call.
The crew made minimal errors and from what I saw, I give them a 3.4

Carey gets a large minus for missing the RTK foul. In cases where you're the only one to rule on a particular event, you have got to not miss it. Compounded to that, he dinged the non-offending team for a foul, which was enforced at the end of the kick. He basically awarded possession to the wrong team. That's a MAJOR mistake.
As for the PI that was moved back, I think it was a good call, and the "tangling of the feet" was a way out. FWIR, I thought that B had restricted A's path to the ball by means of a cut-off route, all without playing the ball.

A weak call against Suh on Romo. How is the DL supposed to tackle the QB anymore? ? But wait this is Romo and "America's Team" the Wussies, we've got to protect them at all costs. It was good to see Detroit come back and win after all

Pete Morelli ruled Browns QB McCoy was sacked , however McCoy was till trying to get away when the ball is knocked out of \Mccoys arms and is recovered by Tenneesee. That needed to be reviewed. I don't think you should call the play dead that fast.

Rex Ryan called time out to yell at Mike Carey over Mark Sanchez's pass/fumble play that was ruled a fumble and a TD for Baltimore. Carey's replay ruling confirmed his original call.
