Hunter Wendlestedt got Weaver and Soscia at Detroit today after Guillen homered got a little showboatish, so Hunter warned Weaver about his mouth, and then the Tiger team also. Weaver then threw at Avila's head on the next pitch, and Hunter bounced both Weaver and Mike in a hurry. Good job of isolating the situation and not letting it escalate. Weaver is a mouth much like his brother who was with the Tigers a few years back.

I was listening to ESPN radio talking about this incident while driving home, and the host (Amy Lawrence I believe) said perhaps the most insanely idiotic thing about this type of situation saying that one of the cool features of baseball is that the pitcher has the chance to retaliate for showboating by throwing at the next batter's head Now I have a broadcasting degree and have announced baseball (and I'm not an official, don't even try to play one on this board), so I get kind of chippy about criticism of all announcers. That said, WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT!?!?! The head is absolutely 100% off limits, that's a man's safety & livelihood there. I understand some retaliation is in order after Guillen's showboating, but no way the head. Wendlestedt properly tossed Weaver & got him off the field ASAP. There's no reason (outside This Bud's Not For Us & the MLBPA) that a pitcher who is ejected for throwing at or above the head of a batter shouldn't face automatic suspension. And even though he got run, Scioscia did the right thing by restraining Weaver and getting him in the clubhouse. Weaver deserves suspension, so does Carrasco for throwing at Butler's head on Friday night. Sorry for the rant. We now resume the umpiring thread already in progress ;D.

I have a degree in communications and in a previous life called play-by-play for about 500 basketball, football, and baseball games. I have a critical ear for announcers too. Sometimes when you have a four hour on-air shift you talk until you think of something to say...... Deliberately doing something that could KILL an opponent is strictly off-limits and should be talked about in neutral terms at worst.

The pitch was way over his head and nowhere near where it could possibly have hit him. It was meant as a message or a retliaton that we're not taking this anymore. Sometimes if you leave well enough aslone, you get yours and I get mine. Now both of you have had your shot and let's cut it out, tempers would not flare. Part of your job as a pitcher is to instill some fear into a hitter. Personally, in old time baseball, everybody shrugs their shoulders and we go on and play. This micromanaging of the game sometimes isn't necessary. Just my opinion.

Yadier Molina just had a meltdown that was worse than the one Jered Weaver had. Rob Drake punched him out on a close pitch and Molina lost his mind, bumping Drake multiple times. I thought there was a good chance he would physically assault Drake had his teammates not held him back.
I say he gets at least 5 games.

Why can't Guillen be tossed after he crosses home? He taunts... so eject him. Perhaps mlb doesn't care to clean this action up.

Molina should get about a month off without pay. Not only did he bump Drake, but it appeared he may have unintentionally spit on Drake as well.

No video of it yet, but Gerry Davis ran Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis last night in the 8th inning after ringing Youk up on a check swing 3rd strike.

Larussa has been petty when it comes to beanballs. If you hit his guy, he will hit two of your guys. About two minutes in he gets offended that a reporter asks him a tough question and doesn't back down when Larussa gets huffy. Yeah, I'm a Cubs fan but I wouldn't want Larussa managing the Cubs. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=17599177
