I was watching part of the Sunday night game and Hunter Wendelstedt took a foul ball off his mask. He did leave the game and Jerry Layne took his place. I will post the video if MLB puts it up. Update here is the video: mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16325925The sad thing is having a three man umpire crew leads to a play like this. If there was a third base umpire I think this would have been called as a foul ball. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16326597

Here's an intense one. Ed Rapuano blows a call at first base but gets help from Alphonso Marquez and makes the correct call. After that, Jim Leyland blows his top: atmlb.com/iyQ1PDA few observations: First, I don't know how Rapuano missed that call. It's almost like he fell asleep. Second, I don't like that MLB umpires are allowed to use chewing tobacco on the field. It looks unprofessional and you don't see officials in any other sport using using chewing tobacco while they are officiating. Third, Leyland needs to sit for at least 2 games. The argument was way to prolonged and there was no need for him to get into it with 3 of the 4 umpires on the field. By the way, O'Nora did a good job of trying to calm the situation.

I have no idea what Rapuano was looking at. But he let Leyland have his say and only ejected after Leyland completely showed him up.
Leyland made a fool out of himself.
If you are going to argue, spit out all seeds, chew, and other crap before commencing screaming.
O'Nora looked really good out there. He was calm and got Leyland going off the field.

(Non-referee) friends and I often talk about calls like this one and I have no defence to their claims that they (my friends) could be an umpire when they see mistakes like that.

ZCR get real, Leyland doesn't need to sit for his tirade...I think Rapuano ought to get hit in his pocketbook for that, that call was worse than little league.....and from an experienced vet...it goes to show no one's perfect.

Cuzzi can't ask for help ,when the hp umpire calls the play a swing there is no apeal . Since there is no definition of a swing in the rule book the umpire is neither right or wrong it's 100 percent a judgement call. Sanchez ejected himself by throwing the bat.

Correct, when the HP umpire makes the call, that's it. When the appeal call came into the rules 40 years ago, the offense and defense could appeal. In other words, 40 years ago, Sanchez could have asked for an appeal. It turned out that every check swing was being appealed and things were getting silly. Now, of course, just the defense can appeal. Calls like this got Hohn many ejections a few years ago. He'd call borderline check swings a strike without appeal and it'd be on.

Eric Wedge ejected by Paul Emmel. Pet Peeve of FF7. Announcers need to come up with something other than, "He's getting his money's worth." You do not have to say that every ejection. It is a crutch phrase. PS--Now that Hohn has shaved the 'stache, Eric Wedge is now rocking the "big" mustache! mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16411163
