I have noticed today the teams I saw all had team hats with solid white panels in front with the team logos on them....Any significance to the panels or coincidence?

It's the MLB patriotic theme they've been having the last several years. The inside of the logo is filled in with the Stars and Stripes pattern. I know they use them for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day & 9/11, not sure about any others.

The players hats all look cheap, but the umps have the MLB logo with a Stars and Stripes background, and that looks GREAT against their usual black caps...

Reminds me of when Paul Lo Duca had a tirade against Angel Hernandez while the play was still live. There have been a number of people who were openly surprised that Hernandez kept his job after the mass resignation debacle since, at the time, he was one of the lowest rated umpires

Busy night for Joe West's crew in Anaheim last night: atmlb.com/q6l7bYatmlb.com/oPMBqQJustin Verlander was also ejected, but I haven't found a video of that incident. For what it's worth, we've had 16 ejections in the first 5 days of July.

How many ejections do those inept boobs on West's crew have? NOT ONE of those guys on that crew are major league material...Why on earth did they ever bring Joe West after he was let go?

West has an attitude, I don't question that but he really is an outstandings balls and strikes umpire. I would say he may be the best now that Jerry Crawford has retired (just my opinion). Angel Hernandez is inept and has never improved and has no business in the major leagues except for the fact they may be afraid to dump him since he is Hispanic (political correctness and all that). I don't know the other members of the crew.

Schrieber was in the majors pre-resignation yet has not received a #2 position on any crew although some 1999 hires (Everitt, Reynolds, O'Nora, for one season Kulpa off the top of my head) have
Fairchild had his hot-headed moments as a AAA fill-in
cj, speaking of balls and strikes guys, his strike zone is small but I do like the consistency of Gerry Davis behind the plate (I was also a fan of Randy Marsh before he became a supervisor)

Busy night Monday in Florida, First Vic Carapazza call Emilio Bonifacio out on a close play at first. Bonifacio throws his helmet and gets tossed. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16609869Next, John Buck argues after a close pitch is called ball four. Danley doesn't like what he hears and throws Buck out. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=16612503IMO, the Bonifacio ejection was not warranted while the Buck ejection was. Bonifacio did not throw his helmet hard and should have only gotten an equipment fine. However, Danley gave Buck plenty of opportunity to be quiet and Buck didn't oblige Danley did the right thing by running him.

You have to like the look Danley was giving McKeon when he told him EXACTLY what Buck said. Jack quickly went back to the dugout, so you know Buck must have said one of the Magic Words...

These professional athletes seem to be acting more and more like little kiddies. I say toss 'em, and clean the game up.
Example: the NBA is more watchable now that Stern has the dress code in place.
MLB also needs to expand IR, and I'm sure nre that Selig will be the one to do it. He's holding progress back.

Greg Gibson just blew his second call in two days and this time it caused a run

I think he was not in proper position...I may be wrong because it was long ago but I was taught when working bases (or the plate) to try to put yourself perpendicular to the throw...he was behind the catcher and the throw was coming in from left field. And it was not just a bad call, it was an atrocious call. Even Vin scully with his octogenerian eyes called the guy clearly out.
Interestingly enough, according to the Met telecast, Collins did not get run the night before because Gibson told him he blew the call; there was no such apology after last night's garbage.
