Bit of a quick trigger as he was going inside anyway. Not sure if it was Collins or a spectator but you can hear something in the background about "how the hell can you tell what he is thinking"

Have to say it was a pretty eventful 24 hours for MLB umpires...
Miller getting the helmet thrown at him
Wendlestedt getting tackled AND Balkin Bob getting billed in the same game
Darling getting Carrasco for throwing at Ryan Braun
and of course, Brian Gorman about to restart the the Nationals/Padres..without the rest of his crew. (would have loved to hear THAT conversation in the umps room after the game!)

I was a little surprised that Lawrie was only suspended four games. Guess that's MBL's way of saying that Miller was at fault too. Looked like he was going to call that last pitch a strike wherever it was. Thought the Toronto announcers were pretty `nice' to Miller also. Sure Ken Harrelson or some other local guys would have really gone off on him.

Lawrie needed to be suspended longer, no matter if the call was right or wrong. Diamond Demo breaks down the strike zone. It is interesting that NL umpires consistently called the 3-1 pitch a strike over the years and the batters knew to swing. Questec changed all of that..... mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21485517&c_id=mlb

4 games is about right. The appeal will take it down to 3 games, hopefully during a series where it matters less.
Two lessons to learn: players need to keep their cool. At all times. #2: if you're going to screw up a call, don't make it an obvious one that has a huge impact on the game. Making these two errors could not have happened at a more crucial time in the game.
When I train new officials, I always tell them: people will more remember how you start and how you end the game.

This was the first ejection I saw in person. I knew if I went to enough games I would see one live. There was another close play in this game. Mike Everitt called an Oakland player safe at first on a close play. Ron Washington came out for a while, but he was not run.

Manuel probably suspended for beaking Davidson. I wonder if they suspended Davidson for cussing out Manuel?

Manuel probably suspended for beaking Davidson. I wonder if they suspended Davidson for cussing out Manuel? Probably that and athe fact that he completely started this argument and wouldn't let it go. The fact that it was for repeated violations makes me think MLB was just sick and tired of Davidson and his rabbit ears. The fact that you could clearly hear him curse multiple times did not help things either.
