What you see from Hawk is just scratching the surface. Apparently, Harrelson went on a multi-inning personal rant against Mark Wegner and just wouldn't let it go. This could get very interesting. WSCR Radio in Chicago (Sox flagship) reports that MLB is "aware" of Harrelson's comments and "is not happy." They are considering options to censure Harrelson for his personal and inflammatory comments. Someone needs to lower the boom on Harrelson. Enough is enough. He has a right to be upset, but to say Wegner "knows nothing about the game of baseball" is unacceptable. Were warnings issued prior to the ejection? It's a free country....freedom of speech and all that. It was an absurd call, though. The ball was low clearly not head hungting and part of the game for generations.

It is a free country. Just be prepared to accept consequences when you decide to use that free speech to inflame, rant, and personally attack others - no matter the circumstances.

I don't believe any warnings were issued until after the White Sox pitcher was ejected. As far as Hawk, I have never heard an announcer get so worked up. I thought he was going to have a stroke on the air. While I think he could have let it go a bit sooner, the only thing I would punish him for was the "what the hell are you doing,Wegner?!" I thought that was unprofessional. Something that bothered me was Tom Paciorek suggesting that ,because of the warning, Tampa Bay pitcher Alex Cobb would be ejected if he accidentally hit a batter. That is patently false. there is no rik of ejection unless the umpire feels the pitcher intentionally hit the batter. Somebody needs to get Paciorek a rulebook and let him read it.

I see nothing wrong with what Wegner did. AJ Pierzynski had a hard unnecessary slide into second base. Then AJ was hit by Cobb so it should be over after that. But no, Quintana felt the need to continue it and throw behind Zobrist, the guy who AJ took out on his slide. It was clearly intentional and if Wegner deems fit he shall eject. I probably would have given warnings but I can't blame Wegner here.

Martin should be lucky he wasn't tossed. I would much rather not be able to throw balls back and still be able to stay in the game rather than hit the showers early. But if Martin is going to complain about something as little as this, he doesn't deserve to stay in the game.

That is 6 Tigers ejections in 8 days all of them members of the Coaching Staff. This is getting flat out ridiculous. You need to pick and chose when you argue. Arguing about a safe-out call from the first inning of a 0-0 game seems very unproductive. First of all, the call is not going to get changed and second of all it is just not a significant enough play in the game that it should matter that much. There is still basically a whole game to be played. How about you focus on your coaching duties and not on a close call in the top of the first inning of a nine-inning game.

Crews working Tigers games better make sure their laptops are fully charged....

I don't have link, just saw on ESPN, but Bob Davidson walked to NYY dugout and tossed their hitting coach today, then tossed Girardi when he came to argue. He has to go. He completely instigated this. He is a major issue once again

He completely instigated this. He is a major issue once again Why mlb ever took him back is beyond me. After the abortive umpire resignatin mess, there was an arbitration held and several of the NL umpires were brought back but Davidson wasn't one of them. The arbitrator had many very unkind things to say about Davidson including his absurd balk calls which the NL President proved powerless to stop. He's just an embarassmernt to the game and to the profession.

At least Angel Hernandez, who should have lost his job in 1999, has worked hard in recent years to become less of a hothead

Here's the link for the Davidson fiasco last night: tinyurl.com/6q363cmNo matter what the Yankee coach said to him, nobody saw it. A professional major league umpire walks away. Contrast his behavior last night with that of Adrian Johnson in Friday night's Met-Cardinal game which ultimately ended in a no-hitter for Johan Santana. The Cardinals put up a strong beef about his blown call, they got their say and nobody got ejected. That's professionalism something Davidson has lacked (which is exactly what the arbitrator said, I know we don't like to rip officials here but in this case, there should be an exception given all the circumstances) from the day he came into the major leagues. It should have had an end put to it years ago. And I'm sorry if that offends anybody here. In this case, the facts are the facts.

cj, another thing to point out is that perhaps accidentally there was contact between Oquendo and Johnson yet Johnson still did not run Oquendo (or Matheny)

The pitch that was in question did look like a ball on replay.
Is MLB attempting to build a case against Bob Davidson in an effort to release him in the near future?
When was the last time an MLB Umpire was released for performance, not counting anything involving the 1999 resignation issues.
