Advantage: NFLRA. The NFL's paying customers are growing restless... gotta think NBC and the FCC aren't too happy either.

Pereira's tweets on the Raven's FG controversy:
Just got back. Here is the rule on FGs. The entire ball must pass inside the outside edge of the upright.
A FG that goes over the top of an upright is not reviewable because you cannot determine when exactly the ball is directly over the pole
So that's the rule. I can't tell good or not but if I had to guess, I'd say it was good.

Doggone.....I had some work to finish to teach my classes tomorrow and missed the end of the Pat game (I had decided the Pats were going to win). I guess a lot of you know what hit the fans late in the game. Also I think Buzzy's story leaves out the call in the Jet game where the receiver failed to maintain possession through a catch as clear as day and the referee failed to overrule but I thought I'd leave that alone because of my obvious bias although I never mind watching Belechek get hosed but looking at the replay, I think the field goal at the end was good. I also think, and I'm not defending the scabs here, the players went out of their way figuring these were scabs. I also think a lot of pressure went out this week to be more proactive in calling penalties against the defense downfield. We saw a lot of that in the Jets game including a border line call near the end which helped allow Miami to tie the game. Bob Kraft exerts quite a bit of influence on this league so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of pressure is bright to get this thing settled. I may have been wrong earlier. The situation may lead to that phone call to Scott Green. I wonder what would have happened as the officials left the field if Baltimore had lost because of the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty late in the game. There's also an interesting story in the NY Times tinyurl.com/9rshwlvThe next move is obviously up to the league but these owners don't like to lose whether it be on the gridiron or at the bargaining table. We may have Ed Hochulhi to verbally abuse in the near future. What a mess. Sorry I missed it.

I have watched NFL games for over 50 years - without question, 2012 is the absolute worst I have ever seen - there are so many missed calls, phantom calls , game mis- management and resulting momentum swings, that I find it hard to validate who actually has won or lost a game. It is clear that the focus is now on the replacement officials and not the players. It is likely that there will be teams that do not make the playoffs because of the inept officials. The executives who have created this situation should be held responsible for their actions. Sound judgment regarding negotiations should have been concluded months before this farcical situation evolved. In my opinion, the owners, players, coaches and fans are losing.

Very well put billump, I too have watched the NFL since it hit the tube, this is a pathetic situation, and at this stage place the blame squarely on Lord Roger....the two sides need to both bend and get this ridiculous confrontation fixed...I hate to see what MNF will bring, and TNF if they don't get the regular guys back..I'd be willing to bet that the regulars could go out there now and do a better job right now than the jokers they have out there now. I haven't seen one official out ther who is NFL caliber, and would not make the grade if he were accepted by the league, other than being ostracised by the regular guys, there isn't one who has the skills required.

JAYJAY I think I have seen one or two. Jim Core actually has not looked bad and neither has Bob Shoulders. But the blame must be on all sides. If NFLRA was so sincere in their belief that the replacement officials are affecting the integrity of the game they would be offering solutions to this impasse and not regurgitating the same offers that have already been rejected by the league

jayjay....do a google search on Finley, Bob AFL ref if you want to see bad
As a side note, I wonder what Mike Periera would be saying if the was still the NFL boss of officials? And interesdting in the articler Buzzy shared with us, he blamed the replay official in the San Francisco fiasco. And then I happened to be watching on the Red Zone Channel and the idiotic annoucements were blaming the officials for not enforcing the 10 seconrun off (the host came on and immediately explained there is no 10 second run off because the clock was not runnig because of the spike on the previous play but once again demonstrating how little these broadcasters as well as the coaches (Marvin Lewis who thought the Bengals had won at that point) know the rules and then sometimes make absurd statemens regarding officials when they don't know what they're talking about.
